Round 1 - Asian Le Mans Series
Finished: DNFStruan Moore was in Zhuhai, China for Round 1 of the Asian Le Mans Series for his debut in the Championship and his first time in an LMP2 car with the Race Performance team. With limited time to test, Struan was stepping into the unknown but showed immediate pace behind the wheel of his new machine. In a rain affected qualifying, Struan lined up P4 for the start of the 4 hour race. The first 2 hours went well, moving up to P2 after a long and tight battle with Spa 24 hour winner Nicky Catsburg, however, Struan was tagged by the Dutchman putting both cars in the gravel, fortunately they re-joined with the a drive through penalty awarded to Catsburg for causing the collision.
The coming together effectively ended a podium charge but in his final stint, Moore, with fresh tyres was able to be within a tenth of the fastest lap set by Nissan Factory driver Andrea Pizzitola, and put in some time topping laps before hitting traffic. Struan's impressive pace was clear, being within a tenth of LMP2 Le Mans winner Gustavo Menezes.
Struan's run was eventually finished by a mechanical problem just 2 laps from the chequered flag.
Taking the positives, Moore and his team have shown enough pace to challenge for podium places and wins at every round. The next race takes place in Fuji on the 2nd - 4th December, a track where he raced in 2014 while competing in Japanese Formula 3.
