Struan makes outstanding return to Ginetta Junior, driving for Championship winning team in final race of the season

Young, Jersey-born racing driver Struan Moore made his competitive return to the Ginetta Junior Championship at the weekend after missing the previous round at Brands Hatch, and it was like he’d never been away! The 16 year old achieved seventh position in the opening race from 12th on the grid before driving to an outstanding 4th place in round 20- the last race of this season.
In the final race, carving his way through from ninth on the grid, Moore kept a watching brief as the action just ahead got ever more fraught and on the last lap his patience was rewarded when a multi-car incident at Becketts enabled him to slice into the top four – finishing just one second shy of the podium.
Hillspeed Team Principal, Richard Ollerenshaw, was impressed by Struan’s performance: “Struan’s come back in outstanding form, he bided his time in the second race and his opportunity came. It would have been nice to get him back on the podium but fourth was great, he has an awful lot of potential and a lot to offer. It’s been great working with him this season and we’d love to see him back out with us again.”
Struan’s team, Hillspeed, had a weekend of double celebrations after also claiming the 2011 team’s title during the final race of the season– a set of terrific results securing the Hathersage outfit its second crown in as many events. The success is even more impressive, coming as it does in only the squad’s second year in Ginetta racing.
At the end of his debut Ginetta Junior Championship season, Struan finished in 12th place overall with 195pts. All eyes are on the Jersey-based driver to see what his next move will be for the 2012 season. Whatever route he chooses, the future is looking very bright for Struan Moore. [ENDS]
